I deeply believe that beautiful decor can have a beneficial influence on our lives.
— Albert Hadley

One of the perks as a Florida-based interior photographer is getting the opportunity to surround myself in beautifully designed spaces and to meet the masterminds who created them. Ansana Interior Design of Winter Park recently contacted me to photograph one of their latest projects, an elegant estate in Ocala, Florida.

Over the past 3 years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with the talented ladies at Ansana. They help clients navigate the complex building, remodeling, and redecorating process with ease.

For this project, we got to work right away starting in the stunning and elegant home office. This room had an oval office feel including a detailed ceiling design, and the perfect pops of evergreen, black, white, and gold.

Next, we shot in the dining room which featured a table large enough to seat 10 making it the perfect setting for those holiday gatherings. The pops of gold throughout this room gave it a perfect touch of elegance while also creating a sense of comfort. The ladies of Ansana did a wonderful job of continuing this throughout the home. Every room we shot felt elegant and sophisticated, yet so comforting, making it perfect for the family’s forever home.

In addition to the photography aspect, I always find it interesting to hear about the ideas that went into designing a space. Here is a sneak peek into my interview with Ansana designer Nancy Short and her take on this project. Enjoy!

Q: Tell me a little bit about this project we most recently worked on:

A: This was a Custom12,000 sq ft home built on a large estate in Ocala to be the forever home for a growing family. We designed interior architectural details that feel timeless and layered in “new traditional” furnishings.

Q: What was your greatest challenge with this project?

A: We were brought into the project after construction was well underway. For a home of this size especially, we should really come in earlier than that. Fortunately, we were able to correct some earlier decisions that had been made – the client had opted for wood look porcelain tile and we were able to talk them into a real Hickory hardwood floor. And we were under pressure to complete a whole set of design selections and construction documents in a short period of time.

Q: What excited you most about this project?

A: The millwork! We designed substantially scaled compounded millwork for walls and ceilings which really elevated the home. Also, the client had a great sense of color and style and was open to making bold statements here and there with wallpapers and vibrant textiles.
